About Lathika Nair Design

The practice behind the work

Lathika Nair Design was founded on a simple belief: that the most important design decisions happen long before a home is built or renovated — and that most homeowners make them without the guidance they deserve.

Lathika began her career studying architecture at the University of Kerala, before spending eight years practising as an architect in India and the Middle East. She brought that technical foundation with her when she moved to Melbourne in 2010, initially working within an architectural firm before turning her full attention to residential interior design.

That architectural background is what sets Lathika Nair Design apart. Where many designers focus on the finished space, we work earlier in the process — at the stage where layouts can still be refined, where lighting can be designed with intention, where the decisions that determine how a home actually feels can still be made thoughtfully.

Lathika Nair Design officially launched in 2020 and has since worked with clients across Melbourne’s most significant new builds and period homes — earning a 5-star Google rating and Houzz recognition for design excellence.

How we work

Every project is different — but every client deserves the same thing: clarity at every stage, decisions made with confidence, and a result that feels entirely their own.

Here is what working with Lathika Nair Design looks like from first conversation to final handover.

Stage 1: Initial conversation

It starts with a free 20-minute call — a no-pressure conversation about your project, where you’re up to, and whether we’re the right fit. If we are, we’ll prepare a detailed proposal outlining the scope of work, our approach, and what to expect at every stage.

Stage 2: Design concept

This is where the thinking begins. We work with you across a series of focused sessions to understand how you live, what matters most, and what the plans are — and aren’t — doing for you. The goal is to resolve the important questions before anything is locked in, so that what gets built is genuinely right for you.

Stage 3: Mood board and material direction

We present a cohesive visual direction for your home — rendered images, material samples, colour palette, and finish selections — so you can see and feel the outcome before committing to anything. Every choice is made in the context of the whole, not in isolation.

Stage 4: Design development

Where required, we prepare detailed documentation for builders and tradespeople — tender drawings, specifications, and scope of works. We manage the process of obtaining and reviewing quotes, selecting suppliers, and ensuring everyone working on your project understands exactly what’s required.

Stage 5: Design Coordination

Once construction begins, we’re on site regularly — liaising with builders and trades, reviewing progress against the design, and keeping you informed at every step. You don’t need to manage the detail. That’s what we’re here for.

Stage 6: Completion and handover

The final inspection is thorough. We check every detail against the design before we hand over to you. A professional photoshoot captures the finished home — and you receive a copy for your records.

From the first conversation to the final walkthrough, our role is to make the process feel considered, calm, and entirely manageable — no matter how significant the project.
