Renovation
Are you feeling the urge to fix, modernise, or transform something around your home? It’s a pretty common Australian obsession, renovating one’s home! Renovating restores the house, reinvents the story of the house and reinvigorates your family. Engaging an interior designer.
Be honest about what you need, and your home will return the favour.
One of the great benefits of hiring an interior designer is that we establish a timeline upfront for your entire project. This plan doesn’t just include the schedule for the renovation works (as a builder would provide), but also things like when we need to order the tiles, tapware, appliances, lighting, etc. ETC! There is a LOT to juggle when renovating a house; many unexpected hurdles and always a few ‘OMG’ moments occur during the build. Engaging an interior designer can help sort out the aesthetics and keep the project on track. And my goodness, me, does construction need to be kept on track! There are many moving parts with a renovation; you want people who know what they are doing employed in their specific area of expertise to keep the things chugging along.
The Builder’s Role
Builders are do-ers. Their job is to take the plans you have for your home and execute them according to the plan requirements. They manage the sub-contractors, including electricians, plumbers, carpenters, plasterers etc.
Builders are also responsible for the final costings and quotes. But builders usually do not get involved in any of the design aspects of your project.
The Interior Designer’s Role
Interior designers develop ideas and concepts for the house’s interior based on the client’s needs and desires. They help you see beyond what you can imagine. Interior designers present products and material choices to you and help you to create a unique and custom look for your family. We can then draw detailed plans, including millwork and tile layouts, and present them using technology like floor plans, elevations, and 3D renderings.
Interior designers are more of a one-stop-shop because we conceptualise the ideas, create plans and often oversee the project from the construction stage to completion. We order all the furnishings and install them to complete the finished look for your home.
Lathika Nair Design prides itself on our relationship with clients, builders, sub-contractors, and suppliers; we listen and get things done! Lathika is a powerhouse at communicating and is excellent at pushing a project along whilst maintaining a good working relationship with all parties.
New Build
Scope of Work:
- Review and Design: As you will have plans from your builder, this stage includes discussion to understand your requirements and review your plans, drawings. Design modifications can be made if required and a concept sketch will be issued which can be taken to your builder for further action and can be discussed.
- Additional Drawings: Additional Design Details can be provided if required.
- Colour Consultation: I can accompany you for your colour consultation and assist with colour selection at the Gallery.
- Electrical Consultation: Electrical layout can be reviewed based on the modifications made and I can accompany you for your consultation and assist with finalising fittings.
- Concept Design: Considering we will finalise furniture layout at the initial stage we move into concept design for each room. Each item will be discussed and finalised.
- Mood Board Presentation (Virtual): This stage gives an idea of the look and feel of the room with images of furniture, décor and colour palette. Presentations and concept drawings will be submitted and discussed to finalise the scheme.
- Final Design: This stage includes final design for your home interiors. This stage includes drawings and details like window treatment, wall treatment if any, furniture, soft furnishings, light fittings, rugs, floral arrangements, art and accessories. Everything required to complete the room and style will be finalised.
- 3D Render: A basic sketch up view for the design space can be provided if required. It gives an idea of space and helps to visualise it better being a 3D view.
- Site Inspection: Site visit can be planned to depend on the situation, on site measurements and further discussions if required can be done on the actual site.
- Project Management/Styling (optional): Based on the final design and items selected I will assist you with sourcing items, arranging trades to get the room furnished, accessorised and styled.
Build a new house, they said, it will be fun, they said, have it exactly as you want.
The problem is now you have a bazillion choices, and the builder wanted answers yesterday. Plus, everyone from the postie to your hairdresser to your mother-in-law has opinions.
Options + Opinions = Overwhelm (not a super cute look for your new primary bedroom)
That is where Lathika Nair Design steps in; we work WITH you to create a space you easily inhabit. It is a space that houses you and your family, your cozy home with that little bit of ‘you’ that makes it unique.
And you can let all those other opinions slide off you as you and your designer work together (or you can leave it all up to us and throw us under the bus when it doesn’t work out 😉) to pull together a home that loves you back.
